Ahmed M. Alkhunaini was appointed Senior Vice President of Sales, Trading, and Supply Planning effective September 1, 2023.
In this role, he will be overseeing Saudi Aramco’s global sales of crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas, its hydrocarbon supply planning network which includes the company’s domestic sales of refined products and feedstock. He also manages the global trading of hydrocarbons and chemicals, a function performed by Aramco Trading Company (ATC), an integrated global trading company and wholly-owned subsidiary of Saudi Aramco.
Ahmed previously served as President and CEO of Aramco Overseas Company (AOC) since August 2021. AOC is also known as Aramco Europe, a Saudi Aramco subsidiary that is responsible for managing the procurement, engineering, HR, and finance for Saudi Aramco in the EU and the UK. AOC is also the sole shareholder of company’s investments worldwide.
Mr. Alkhunaini joined Aramco in September 1989 after earning a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. In his first decade with the company, he worked as an engineer in Oil Supply Planning & Scheduling Department. In July 2005, he joined the Crude Oil Sales & Marketing Department as Marketing Manager, and later as Petroleum Sales, Supply, and Logistics Manager. In July 2009, Mr. Alkhunaini joined Saudi Petroleum International Inc (SPII) in New York, USA as Senior Marketing Manager.
In 2010, he was assigned as Operation Superintendent at Juaymah Terminal Department. In July 2012, he moved to Japan, where he served as Representative Director of Aramco Asia Japan. Then, he returned to Saudi to establish the Base Oil Department in Dhahran in 2016. In March 2018, he was appointed Manager of Crude Oil Sales and Marketing Department.
Mr. Alkhunaini completed several leadership courses, including the Columbia Senior Executive Program. He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Aramco Fuels Poland and Aramco Overseas UK. He also serves as a board member of Aramco Trading Company and Saudi Petroleum Int’l Inc. He also served on the Boards of several companies such as Showa Shell, Arab Petroleum Pipeline Company (Sumed), Luberef Base Oil Company, and others.
