Ibrahim Q. Al Buainain has been appointed as Executive Vice President of Global Manufacturing from September 1, 2023.
He previously held the position of senior vice president of Sales, Trading & Supply Planning (STSP) since February 2022, where he steered the growth of Saudi Aramco’s global trading and sales of crude oil and LPG, its hydrocarbon supply planning network, including domestic sales of refined products and feedstock.
Mr. Al Buainain joined Saudi Aramco in 1989 as an operations engineer at Ras Tanura Refinery. In 1995, he was appointed as lead project engineer for the Shaybah program. From 1998, he worked with the Saudi Aramco joint venture (JV) company S-Oil in South Korea as its General Manager, responsible for trading and logistic operations for crude oil, refined products, and chemicals.
In 2004, Mr. Al Buainain became a portfolio manager of all Saudi Aramco international JVs. In 2007, he was named director of the Asia JV Department. In 2009, he was assigned as a director for the Rabigh Phase-II development project.
From 2011-2013, he was director of the Structuring and Venturing Department, responsible for the development and implementation of sustainable and growth-oriented business models. In parallel to this, he was appointed as CEO of Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures (SAEV).
In 2014, he became president and CEO of Aramco Asia, which supports Saudi Aramco’s corporate strategic objectives in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2016 he was appointment President and CEO of Aramco Trading Company (ATC), an integrated global trading company and wholly-owned subsidiary of Saudi Aramco. Prior to assuming this role, he had been the Global Head of Transaction Development in New Business Development, in charge of executing joint ventures (JVs), mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, as well as other transactions.
With over 33 years of diversified experience in the oil and gas industry, Mr. Al-Buainain also serves as Chairman of the Board of PetroRabigh, Luberef, as well as board member of Bahri, Regional Voluntary Carbon Market Company (RVCMC), and in several of Aramco subsidiaries.
Mr. Al Buainain holds a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, an MBA in Global Management, and a M.S. degree in Innovation and Global Leadership from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
