Aramco Trading Singapore (ATS) has successfully concluded a 13-week co-op program, in collaboration with Singapore Management University (SMU), under their SMU-X program.
SMU-X is an experiential learning framework that allows students to collaborate with corporations and other organizations on projects that will enable them to take on real-life challenges, bridging classroom theory with practical, hands-on experience.
Attended by computing students, ATS was chosen as the project sponsor for the course, which was titled “Object-Oriented Programming in Java.”
Under the program, students collected relevant petroleum-related data from official country websites and built dashboards to support business development and trading decisions.
“It was an enriching experience to work with Aramco Trading for our school project, bridging the gap between business and technology,” one of the participants said.
The program improved their overall technical competencies by teaching them various products and terminology used in the oil and gas industry. It also highlighted the importance of understanding business requirements before diving into technical aspects, which is the key takeaway to guide them in dealing with future projects.
“The networking sessions gave us a better idea of the thought process within the context of trading, and I am glad to see our work being used to help solve real-world problems,” another student said.
The SMU-X is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to connect with the communities where we operate.
